It’s been a rough year. We’ve all had to learn new ways of doing, well, darn near everything! Masks are a thing. Not seeing extended family is the norm. And our kids’ school policies seem to change- All. The. Time.
Juggling all of this, it’s easy to feel like you can’t do anything right. With so many balls in the air, it’s inevitable that you will drop one or two here and there. But, often we spend so much time beating ourselves up for the balls we drop, we don’t even notice all the things we are doing right in our lives. Let’s look at some simple ways we don’t let the small victories go unnoticed.
Gratitude Journal – At the end of the day, take a few minutes to look back and identify some of the things that made you happy that day. Some days it may be big things, like a job promotion or raise. Some days you might have to look a little harder to find the things that made you smile. Maybe you reconnected with an old friend on Facebook. Maybe you had a really delicious apple. Maybe you had some cuddle time with your pet. Regardless, even if you’ve had a “craptastic” day, if you look hard enough, you will be able to find those moments.
Lower the bar! – Perhaps you’re expecting too much right now? The world is different than we’ve ever known it to be, and a lot of our daily energy is still spent trying to adapt to our new, ever changing normal. Cut yourself some slack. Identify what is necessary and what is aspirational. Make a list of things you will do post-pandemic.
